The District Goes Radical in the 1960s

After leaving the Communist Party in 1957, she became a successful investigative journalist. Her husband, attorney Robert Treuhaft, helped many District residents in 1964/65 while acting as attorney to the Free Speech Movement (FSM). Hillary Rodham Clinton was a summer intern at his firm in the summer of 1971. J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, stated in 2002, "My most influential writer, without a doubt, is Jessica Mitford."
